BitSpirit

BitTorrent clients are an excellent solution if you have to exchange large files with your coworkers, over the Internet, but some of them can have a complex interface, with confusing menus and options. BitSpirit offers the same functionality, as well as a clean and simple interface, which makes the software easier to use. Besides faster downloads, an important feature is the fact that you have full control over your downloads. You can decide when to download files, interrupt the process and resume it at a later date and more.

While installing BitSpirit, you can choose to install additional components, like a TCP/IP limitation patch or a feature which allows you to preview media files while downloading. The software is compatible with all popular Windows versions. You don't have to meet any special requirements, but you must add BitSpirit to your firewall's exceptions list. The setup wizard will provide you with this option, so you don't need to go through any Windows settings.

The user interface is divided into three areas. The larger area on the right is the place where the loaded torrents are listed. You can also view general information about a selected torrent, its trackers, pieces, peers, files and activity log, on separate tabs, located beneath the torrents list. Torrents can be categorized in a tree structure, on the left side of the window, where you can also perform a web search, using Google or certain trackers, like MiniNova, Torrentz and others.

New downloads are configured on a separate window. Besides selecting a torrent file and a destination folder, you may set the program to start downloading immediately, to let you start it manually or you can schedule the download. Additional options can be found on separate tabs, on the same window. If the selected torrent consists of multiple files, you may choose which files to download. You can also import and export trackers and set up download and upload speed limits.

You can not add new torrents by dragging and dropping them on the interface, but you can drop them over a status bar, which appears on the screen when the main window is not active. The bar provides information like download and upload speeds for the loaded torrents and you can move it anywhere on the screen. Even if BitSpirit's interface is minimized, dragging and dropping a torrent file on the status bar will bring up the configurations window for new downloads.
